What is
RF microneedling?

Microneedling uses very fine needles to make controlled micro-channels in the skin, which the skin repairs by building new collagen. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy, a form of heat, delivered through the tips of those needles below the surface, where many devices cannot reach. The heat tightens the collagen that is already there and triggers more of it, which is what firms loose skin and smooths scars and lines over the months that follow.

Rewind treats with the Secret DUO by Cutera. It pairs Secret RF, radiofrequency through gold-plated microneedles, with Secret Glow, a non-ablative 1540 nm laser that targets pigmentation, fine lines, texture, and scars while leaving the surface of the skin intact. Each component can be used alone or combined in a plan for your skin.

A session takes about 30 minutes, with little to no downtime, and the results build for months as the collagen does.

Three to four treatments, four to six weeks apart, is the usual course. If we don’t think RF microneedling will get you the result you want, we’ll say so at the consultation.

Your provider cleanses the skin and applies a numbing cream to the treatment area. It stays on for about 15 minutes to take full effect, then is removed and the treatment begins.

The Secret DUO handpiece is applied to the skin. You feel a mild heating sensation and light pressure. Most people find it tolerable, and your provider adjusts technique and settings for your comfort.

Your skin is cleansed again and a healing cream applied to soothe and protect the treated area. The laser leaves the surface intact, which is what keeps recovery short.

Is it safe for darker skin tones?

Microneedling is considered the safest of the resurfacing options for darker skin because it carries the lowest risk of pigment changes. The laser side of the Secret DUO is decided case by case: your provider assesses your skin tone at the consultation and sets the depth, the intensity, and whether the laser is used at all.
