What is a
Brazilian?

A Brazilian treats the full pubic area: front, labia, perineum, and between the buttocks. A bikini line treats only what shows outside swimwear, and an extended bikini adds the upper thighs. You decide the boundary at your consultation, and your provider treats to it, session after session.

It works the same way as laser hair removal anywhere else. Light is absorbed by the pigment in each hair and turned to heat, which disables the follicle. What makes this zone different is why people come: shaving and waxing cut or pull hair that then curls back into the skin, and the bumps, dark marks, and irritation follow. Take the follicle out of the equation and the ingrowns stop with it.

Sessions here are short, about 20 to 30 minutes depending on hair density, and there is nothing to grow out beforehand. A Brazilian is often paired with underarms in the same visit, since those are the two areas where ingrowns are most common.

Every skin tone is treated here, Fitzpatrick I through VI, on the same device. Coarse, dark hair responds best; fine or light hair may not, and your provider will tell you so.

Bikini line, extended bikini, or full Brazilian. Your provider maps the area with you at the consultation and keeps to it every session.

The Nd:YAG wavelength on the Cynosure Elite IQ passes the surface pigment and targets the follicle, which is what lets it treat Fitzpatrick IV to VI, the tones laser has long underserved.

Once the follicle stops producing hair, there is nothing left to curl back under the skin. The bumps and dark marks that come with them clear as the hair does.

Spaced four to eight weeks apart to catch each follicle in its growth phase, then an occasional maintenance session as hormones shift.

When every wax ends in bumps and every razor in a rash, this is the zone to start with.

Whether a Brazilian is right for you is something we decide together at the consultation. Your provider looks at your hair and your skin, hears where you want the boundary, and tells you plainly what to expect.

Ingrowns keep coming back

Curly or coarse hair here curls back into the skin after every shave or wax. Treating the follicle ends the cycle rather than managing it.

Waxing is not worth it anymore

Growing it out, the sting, the monthly appointment. A course of laser replaces all of it with sessions that take a lunch break.

Your skin is medium to deep

Dark marks after ingrowns are more common on deeper skin. The Nd:YAG setting on our device was built for Fitzpatrick IV to VI.

You want it done, not managed

Six to eight sessions and the follicle stops producing hair. What grows back, if anything, comes in finer and sparser.

The three options differ only in how far the treatment goes. Everything else, the device, the settings, the number of sessions, is the same. Most people decide the boundary at the consultation and keep it for the whole course.

A Brazilian is priced by the boundary you choose and the number of sessions you book, so you get one clear number at the consultation, before anything is scheduled. Payment plans through Cherry are available.

Depending on hair density. A bikini line is quicker still. Adding underarms in the same visit adds ten to fifteen minutes, and you go straight back to your day.

Most people describe each pulse as a warm flick of a rubber band. This zone is more sensitive than a leg, so you may feel it more here. If it gets uncomfortable, your provider adjusts the settings without losing effectiveness.

A cooling gel goes on right after your session and you leave with written aftercare. Expect some redness and warmth for a few hours. Skip workouts, saunas, hot tubs, swimming, and tight clothing for a day or two.

Treated hair sheds over the week or two after each session. Hair grows back finer and sparser each time, and most people need six to eight sessions to reach the result they are after. A maintenance session every six to twelve months helps keep it there.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a bikini line and a Brazilian?

A bikini line treats only the hair that shows outside underwear or swimwear, the sides and the top. An extended bikini takes that further onto the upper thighs. A Brazilian treats the full pubic area, the labia, the perineum, and between the buttocks. You choose the boundary at your consultation, and your provider treats to it.

How many sessions does a Brazilian take?

Most people need six to eight sessions, spaced four to eight weeks apart. Only a portion of your hair is actively growing at any one time, and the laser only affects follicles in that phase, so it takes a series to reach all of them. You will notice the difference after the first few, with what grows back coming in finer and sparser.

Does it hurt more than other areas?

The bikini area is more sensitive than a leg or an underarm, so you may feel each pulse more here. Most people describe it as a warm flick of a rubber band, and a Brazilian is over in about 20 to 30 minutes. If it gets uncomfortable, your provider adjusts the settings without losing effectiveness. Most people find it easier than waxing.

Is it safe for darker skin?

Yes. The Cynosure Elite IQ carries an Nd:YAG wavelength that passes the surface pigment and targets the follicle underneath, which is what lets it treat Fitzpatrick IV to VI. Your provider assesses your skin at the consultation and chooses the settings for it.

How do I prepare?

Clean-shave the area within 24 hours of your appointment so the hair is short but the follicle is still in place for the laser to find. Stop waxing, tweezing, and anything that pulls hair from the root at least four weeks before your first session. Avoid sun, tanning beds, and self-tanner for at least two weeks beforehand.

What happens after a session?

Expect some redness and warmth for a few hours. Skip workouts, saunas, hot tubs, and swimming for 24 to 48 hours, because sweat and chlorinated water irritate treated skin. Treated hair sheds naturally over the following week or two, which is the treatment working. Keep the area moisturized, and once the skin has settled, gentle exfoliation a few times a week helps keep ingrowns away.

Is it safe during pregnancy?

We recommend waiting until after pregnancy and breastfeeding to begin or resume laser hair removal. Tell your provider if that changes during your course, and your sessions can be paused and picked up again afterward.
