Sensitive Skin & Redness

Skin that flushes at a new product, stings after a scrub, and goes pink when the room gets warm needs care chosen for it, not pushed through it. Every facial here can be adjusted for skin that reacts.

What’s
going on?

Sensitive skin reacts to what other skin shrugs off. Products that suit other people sting, heat and cold bring color to the cheeks, and a facial that promised a glow leaves you blotchy for a day. By your thirties and forties the pattern is usually familiar, and the frustrating part is that most of what is sold as a treatment for it is either too harsh to try or too timid to notice.

Not all redness is the same, and the first job is telling it apart. Skin that flushes and settles within hours is reactive. Redness that stays put may be rosacea, which deserves a dermatologist's diagnosis. Our facials are gentle enough for skin with rosacea or eczema, but they do not treat either, and we do not treat broken capillaries. If that is what we see at the consultation we will tell you so rather than sell you a facial that will not change it.

What we do is care for reactive skin gently and professionally. Every facial here starts with a close look at your skin and a conversation about what you react to. The signature sensitive skin facial is done by hand and built around calming. HydraFacial replaces scrubs and squeezing with a spiral tip and light suction. The Aqua Facial cleanses without disturbing the moisture barrier and closes on a cooling step made to relieve sensitivity.

Reactive skin does best with fewer, better-chosen steps. At the free consultation your provider looks at your skin, notes what has set it off before, and picks the facial, the products, and the settings for it. If a flare is active that day, your provider may ask you to let it settle first.

Color that comes and goes, and products that burn on contact. This points to the signature sensitive skin facial, where the lavender cleanse, calming mask, and ice globes are chosen to settle the skin, and extraction is kept to a minimum.

Reactive skin that also clogs, so a conventional facial leaves it both blotchy and unfinished. This points to a HydraFacial, which clears pores with gentle suction instead of manual extractions and delivers hydrating serums as it goes.

Skin that feels stripped and looks pink. This points to the Aqua Facial, where the niacinamide serum is chosen to help the barrier, emu bush extract calms redness, and the cooling handpiece finishes the session.

Calm first, then everything else

The sensitive skin signature facial is the gentlest thing on the menu, and it is done entirely by hand by our lead aesthetician. The six steps are the ones every signature facial shares, a double cleanse, analysis and exfoliation, extraction, lymphatic massage, a mask, and a moisturizer chosen for you, but each is dialed back for skin that reacts. The cleanse is a soothing lavender, extraction is kept to a minimum, and the mask is a calming one. Ice globes at the end bring redness and puffiness down rather than stirring them up.

A HydraFacial takes the hands out of it. One spiral-tipped handpiece loosens dead skin, lifts debris out of the pores with gentle suction, and delivers hydrating serums in its place, so there is no scrubbing and no squeezing. The serums are chosen for sensitivity at the consultation. Because nothing is peeled or broken, most people see nothing more than a little pinkness afterward, and the treatment is adjusted to reactive skin rather than pushed through it.

The Aqua Facial is the technology option for skin that is irritated and dehydrated at once. The AquaPeel handpiece cleanses with a uniform spray of solution instead of a scrub, so the moisture barrier is left alone. AquaRenew's emu bush extract calms redness, and your provider can choose the 10 percent niacinamide serum, which is there to help repair the lipid barrier and ease irritation. The session ends with the Cooling handpiece, used specifically to relieve sensitivity.

By hand or by device, and how often

None of these facials asks for downtime. The signature facial runs about an hour and you go straight back to your day. A HydraFacial fits in 30 to 45 minutes, with makeup allowed straight after. The Aqua Facial is non-invasive and shows a visible change after a single session. The difference is in how the skin is handled: by hand with products chosen for it, or by a handpiece whose settings and serums are chosen for it. Some reactive skin does better with one, some with the other, and your provider will say which.

Rhythm matters more than intensity for sensitive skin. Your skin renews itself roughly every month, so most people who make facials part of their routine come in every four to six weeks for a signature facial, or about once a month for a HydraFacial. Just as important is what happens between visits: what you do at home is about 60 percent of the result, so you leave with a morning and night routine from the Skinbetter Science and Hydrinity lines we carry, chosen for skin that reacts. How often should you get a facial goes into the cadence.

Two honest limits. If you are in the middle of a flare or have an active infection, your provider will ask you to wait until it settles, because treating through it helps nothing. And if what we see looks like rosacea or broken vessels rather than reactive skin, we will say so at the consultation and point you to a dermatologist, since a facial will not treat those. Everything else starts with a free 45-minute consultation, where you are greeted by name and given one clear plan before anything is scheduled. Treatment can begin the same day.
